Formally trained, his pieces are included in several permanent collections of Museums of Art and in private and corporate art collections. His designs begin with exceptional pieces of wood. The grain pattern or the color of the wood influences the approach he takes with each creation. Whimsy, fantasy, and wit are the trademark of Dale’s art. He often uses bright colors and exaggerated features enhancing the character of the pieces. In this sculpture, the lips part by an unfastening mechanism to reveal a small hidden space. Always some shade of red, these sculptures are time consuming and labor intensive to make, but Dale confides they are some of his favorite works.
