Morris Avenue was named after Josiah Morris, the major shareholder in the Elyton Land Company that was organized in 1870 to buy land and sell lots to develop a new city -- Birmingham, Alabama. Running parallel to the Alabama and Chattanooga Rail Line, Morris Avenue became a prime location for warehouses and other commercial buildings in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Today, the renovated building of the historic portion of Morris Avenue (2000 – 2400 blocks) house a variety of professional offices. Created by Mike Neilson, an artistic photographer in Birmingham, Alabama, this collage of Morris Avenue shows details from some buildings superposed on the original pavement. Sloss Furnaces can be seen in the top right. Printed with pigmented ink on matte paper, each print is signed and numbered as one of a limited edition of 250. 12” x 15” image size.
