Spool Glass Quilt

Stained glass artists made up of sisters, daughters and granddaughters based in Birmingham, Alabama, handcraft these unique stained glass wall hangings. Designed after popular quilt patterns, they are called “Glass Quilts”. To achieve an elegant look for their stained glass art, they use the copper foil method or “Tiffany technique” developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany in the late 1800s. This particular quilt design, known as the “Spool”, is considered one of the hardest quilts to construct because of the “Y” seam. The piece features two types of clear textured glass, one small inner rectangle of turquoise and one of sienna. Measuring approximately 12” x 12”, this piece of glass art can be displayed in a number of ways at home or the office. A chain and hooks are provided with each piece.
